Malawi

Malawi Cichlids are a diverse group of freshwater fish endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. They are known for their vivid colors, unique behaviors, and territorial nature, these fish are highly active and best suited for species-specific or cichlid-focused aquariums. Malawi Cichlids are mainly divide into two groups known as  Mbuna (rock-dwelling), and Haps (sand-dwelling or open water fish). They are mouthbrooders, meaning females carry fertilized eggs and young in their mouths for protection. Due to their aggressive nature, they require carefully structured aquariums with plenty of rocks and caves to establish territories.

  • Size – Typically grow to around 10 cm (4 inches),but can reach upto25 cm (10 inches) depending on species

  • Life cycle – 5 to 10 years
